Beverley RUFC Award for Support in the Community
12th Nov 2021
Beverley RUFC were last night formally awarded a strategic partnership grant for the next three years from Beverley Town Council. The Chairman, Brian Gilbert attended the Civic award ceremony at the East Riding Theatre that was celebrating the achievements of many different local community groups. The Town Council have awarded a grant of £3000 per year for three years, in recognition of the great community work that the club does at all age groups and genders, but not just in rugby, also the affiliations we have and support that we offer to other local community support groups.
Groups such as Mutual Aid, Salsa Dance Class, Joshua Light Foundation, Community Art Class, Referee’s Association, the ERYC Community Hub, the HEY Smile Foundation, the Cherry Tree Centre, Yorkshire RFU Society, the Daisy Appeal, Andy’s Man Club and more recently the Lollipop Club.
Speaking after the award Brian Gilbert commented, “it was a very humbling experience to be surrounded by people that were being recognised for their community centred selflessness in supporting some excellent causes, and striking that our club was so close to so many of them either directly or indirectly receiving benefit from what we bring ourselves to the community. The senior committee have been consciously trying to build more diverse relationships in the community given we have so much to offer. It is testimony to all of the hard work from all of the volunteers and staff at the rugby club that we have received this award, we should all be very proud of this – thank you all.”
The Mayor of Beverley presented Brian with an award plaque, who having recently visited the rugby club was extremely complimentary of the good work we are doing with so many different organisations, and especially with all of the children that enjoy the game of rugby union. She thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality, and even though she had a close encounter with one of our ex-club captains’ she promised that she would be back with her team again soon. Well done and thank you all for your support.
