Sat 25th Sep 2021
Beverley 2nds entertained Hullensians 2nds in what was the first game for the Beverley team this season. Beverley were soon on the attack producing quick ball for their back line. Centre Jacob Baggs opened the scoring with a try close to the posts, improved by scrum half Joey Franklin playing his first game in yet another comeback. The Beverley forwards were doing well against a big pack with the back row of Dave Wilkes at 7 and the returning Connor Eagan at 6. Another Beverley score soon followed when Baggs, who came through last years Colts team scored again, improved by Franklin.
Beverley’s no 8 Phil Cromie was now winning penalties with his excellent work over the ball at breakdown. This led to another Beverley try after good work by Franklin, he put in Connor Eagen for a try wide pit on the touchline, Franklin hitting the post with the conversion.
Hullensians started to come into the game with strong runs from their forward pack and quick illusive full back scoring to make it 19-5.
Second half with the Beverley pack starting to tire, Hullensians scored another try to make the score 19-10. Soon on the attack Beverley’s Jacob Baggs scored his hat-trick try when he ran onto a pass and cut a great line to score under the posts, converted by Franklin.
By now Hull where getting on top and hit Beverley with two tries, one converted, 26-24. Last 10 minutes Hullensians scored 12 more points making the final score Beverley 26 Hullensians 36.
A fine first outing for a new look Beavers side excellently led by Gavin Jenney with lack of line out ball Beverley did struggle but can be pleased by giving a very good account of themselves.
